This is a very accessible and adaptable weekly training run that is open to senior runners of all abilities. Although everyone will follow the same general route outlined below, people may be split into two or three groups on the night - each with a qualified run leader - to run between four and eight miles.
STANDARD ROUTE • 6.5 miles • View on Mapometer
Go down Harrison Drive turning left at the first roundabout then all the way along Birtwistle Avenue to the mini-roundabout. Turn left here up Red Lane past the school, continuing until the road narrows and dips through the woods, then take the first right down a steep country lane towards the sailing club. Still heading downhill veer left before a large house to cross the old railway line, turning left onto the canal at the bottom of Slipper Hill. Stay on the towpath for almost two miles, passing under the motorway en route, before coming off and turning right to Bull Holme (and Stephen Burke cycle track). Follow the path as it curves past the entrance to the cycle track and goes back under the motorway into Barrowford Park. Stay right on the Tarmac around the edge of the cricket pitch and into the park proper, following the riverside path to reach Barrowford Road. Turn right here and go all the way back up toward Colne, turning left before the traffic lights up Alkincoats Road and straight up through the park to the pavilion.
SHORTER ROUTE • 4.5 miles • View on Mapometer
Follow the Standard Route until you reach Barrowford Road on the canal, turning left here and back towards Colne to follow the final two miles of the Standard Route.
May do loops of Barrowford reservoir or Barrowford Park.
