Boulsworth (Old Route)

UPDATE 13th August - We've been round the route today, so it is now PARTIALLY flagged. Please be aware of the route, & observe the flags & marshalls instructions. After all the rain we've had it is now wet underfoot & boggy in places, so we must stress that road shoes are NOT suitable for the race. If you choose to run in road shoes, it is at your own risk. There may also be a couple of gates that won't be open and in these cases you should climb over the gate, not the wall or fence! This year Boulsworth Fell is the last race of the Pendle and Burnley Grand Prix having been run for the first time in 2010. It is run on the same day as the Trawden Agricultural Show and the race entry fee includes access to the showground. The route is about 7.5 miles and could be described as a bit of everything - some tarmac, some track, bridleway, fell and mud!! Registration and parking takes place adjacent to the showground and last year club members supplied ample amount of cake and biscuits to keep people occupied until the prize giving. This year the race is again kindly sponsored by PH Electrical of Laneshawbridge with Paul, the sponsor, winning the prize for fastets local in the race. The route onto the fell is tough and rough underfoot so road shoes are not an acceptable choice. Be prepared for bad East Lancashire weather although the reassuring presence of Fell Rescue doesn't mean you don't need to be prepared to carry appropriate body cover and equipment. NOTE : Parts of the route are have been kindly made available and are not public footpaths / bridleway so please do not recce them and upset the landowners who have been extremely helpful in the planning of the race. You can still do most of the route by avoiding the private land. The map shows the parts which are not open to public access.
