Coniston 14 Plus
Venue: Coniston, Cumbria, 11.00am This outstanding race in the beautiful Lake District is a essentially a lap of Coniston Water. It's usually 14 miles long over an undulating road course, but last year it had to be extended to roughly 17 miles after autumn floods had washed out the highest bridge crossing at the southern end of the lake. This year - either because the bridge still hasn't been repaired or the (mildly sadistic) race committee decided the longer route was preferable - it is once again the 14+ course. It's pretty long and quite demanding, but it's a classic race with well over 1000 participants, and there are some great pubs in the village for a post-race pint. Get your entry in early though (you can register on-line through the race website) as it fills up quickly!
