Wallace & Gromit Set Sail!

CHRIS QUIGLEY 12 NOV 2012

Fantastic autumn day at Lytham St Anne's for the Windmill 10K. The sun was shinning brightly though there was a strong prevailing wind. A quick check on direction confirmed that it would be a long slog up the front to the lake at Fairhaven with the wind in our faces.

Well over 500 runners lined up for the start with an excellently observed two minutes' silence for Remembrance Sunday.

At 11.05am we were off from the start at the Lowther Pavilion to make our way past the windmill and down to the mile marker, then a quick turn to make our way up to fairhaven lake.

This is where the prevailing wind kicked in and it felt a long three mile drag up to Fairhaven. I noticed my time per mile was creeping up, and realised by the four mile marker that this was not going to be a PB day.

Up to Fairhaven for a mile loop around the lake and back on the front for the final mile to the finish - at least the wind was behind for the final mile dash to the end.

I was hoping for a PB but happy with position and looking at the results not too many managed to get sub-40 with the wind definitely a factor on the day.

Well done Wallace aka "John Mac" on beating last year's time!
