STANDARD ROUTE • 6.4 miles • View on Mapometer
Head out along the Tarmac path then down the gravel hill all the way to the bottom of Alkincoats Road. Turn right down Barrowford Road and at the left hand bend go through the style on the right hand side. Take the path through a few fields to the canal, cross the footbridge and continue over the field to the kissing gate in the far corner. Go down Frances Avenue to the junction turning immediately right up the hill. Turn left along Whittycroft Avenue then go right up the main road to Blacko. Carry on all the way up the hill to the flowerbed then turn left steeply down Blacko Bar Road. After crossing the river (road bridge with white railings) continue up a short hill then take a left just after a large house and along the Pendle Way. Following this through several fields to reach the wide wooden bridge at Water Meetings. Stay on the Pendle Way (right over the bridge then immediately left) and follow the riverside path towards Higherford Mill. Turn left over the hump-back bridge just before the mill going behind the church, and keep left at the main road. Stay right at the bus turning area, and turn right immediately after back up Francis Avenue. Retrace your original route back over the canal, up Barrowford Road and through Alkincoats.
SHORTER ROUTE • 4.8 miles • View on Mapometer
