TAC Winter Series 2017-18
POSTED BY JAMIE MCILVENNY ON 9 OCTOBER 2017

In keeping with tradition, our Winter Series kicks off at the Lord Rodney, but there'll be a mix of races AND for the first time it incorporates the mud-tastic cross country races!

These are very much a fun social outing but also an opportunity to keep up your racing fitness over the winter months, dabble in something new or just put a friendly face to some of the names you see bouncing around Facebook/Twitter/Strava.

DATES FOR THE DIARY
1) 22nd October 2017 - Rodney Round
2) 23rd December 2017 - Christmas parkrun
3) 28th January 2018 - Brontes-in-Pendle Round
4) 11th March 2018 - Trawden 10 mile

PLUS your best two XC scores from the following fixtures. REMEMBER: It's only the TAC runners that count for placings so attendance at some of those normally quieter races (Ulverston?) may bag you full points!

XC FIXTURES
ML - 14th October - Cuerden Valley Park
RR - 14th October - Leigh Sports Village
RR - 11th November - Chorley
RR - 18th November - Bolton, Leverhulme Park
ML - 25th November - Sefton Park, Liverpool
RR - 2nd December - Marl Pitts, Rossendale
LXC - 9th December - Leigh Sports Village
ML - 6th January - Witton Park, Blackburn
ML - 13th January - Towneley Park, Burnley
ML - 17th February - Rylands Park, Lancaster
ML - 3rd March - GSK Sports Club, Ulverston

(ML = Mid Lancs League, RR = Red Rose League, LXC = Lancashire XC Champs)

ENTRY: The three club-organised races shall be £3 entry with all monies after prizes going to the club charity. Of course parkrun is FREE and XC entry is managed by the club so ensure your name is down!

THE TECHNICAL BIT: For overall standings, each race shall be scored with points, with the first Male and Female Humbug past the line receiving 10 points, second receiving 9 points, down to 1 point where every finisher will score 1 point. Only exception is parkrun, where every runner will score 5 points.

THE PRIZE BIT: Prizes are not only for the so-called "Winners". Whilst there may be a bottle of Wine or Ale for those at the front, a couple of races will also have a few spot prizes and the oh-so-prestigious TAC-MUG for those that complete all six races!

CLUB-ONLYRACE DESCRIPTIONS

Rodney Round
A 6 km hilly road race to help you work up a thirst for a few drinks in the pub after! Starting at the Lord Rodney, you take a loop of the Millennium Green, up Lenches, down Knotts Lane, a reverse loop of the Millennium Green, up Knotts Lane and finish down Lenches! First back gets the beers in! This fiendish race was devised by Dean Ralphson, so please direct your 'thank you' afterwards directly to him.

Christmas parkrun
Pick a local parkrun and run it! Whether you choose the highly recommended Pendle or Burnley parkruns - both will have plenty of fun, festive cheer - or fly the #TeamTAC flag further afield, make sure you have 'Trawden AC' as your club in your parkrun profile and your result will count. Everyone taking part will receive 5 points towards the Winter Series regardless of position so get out and have a toddle round! All runners are encouraged to wear festive head gear, sweaters, red-noses and ensure it's "Yay, Humbug!" not "Bah, Humbug" this winter!

Brontes-in-Pendle Round
A 6-7 mile round taking in Trawden and Wycoller, inspiration for the Bronte Sisters books from the people and countryside around them. Depending on the weather it may also take in a jaunt up Boulsworth to Lad Law, adding around 2 miles to the distance.

Trawden 10 mile
A bit of everything from Trawden Rec, out along the usual Trawden T7 route, taking in Wycoller trails and the Ferndean Way, making your way back to the Rec through Winewall. A nice follow-on if you're normally tackling 10Ks and a great finale to the Winter Series with beers and presentation following!
